Event Standings & Master Points... previous - next

One very important final step...

When the matches are recorded for all brackets you'll wind up at the Event Editor:

Click the Update Final Standings... button to open the page that sets places and master points:

This is the heart of the database standings system, it's the reason you went to all the trouble to record the match results. If you don't save the event places and master points, they will not show up in the Club Standings pages.

When you first open this page, a list of all event players with match wins is shown (sorted by the number of matches won). The Place, Master Points, Cash, etc. fields are blank.

Mark the players who placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. To calculate the master points automatically, click the Calculate Master Points button.

The MP Bonus is a master point multiplier (1x, 1.5x, 2x) used in the calculation of the master points. This calculation uses the Universal Master Points System (a slightly modified version of the system used by Carol Joy Cole of the Flint Area Backgammon Club). It takes into account the Event Level, MP Bonus, number of rounds, and the number of players in the event. You can set the Master Point Calculation method to use the number of rounds, the number of players, or the max of these two methods. A chart of this system is shown in the Appendix.

Note: If your club uses a different master point system, you can skip the automatic calculation and just manually enter the master points for each player. At some time in the future, we may add some alternate calculation methods to accommodate different clubs, but this might be a good time for your club to consider adopting the Universal System.

The optional Cash, Side Pool, and Calcutta fields are used to keep track of cash prizes if you wish (these are private records).

When the places and master points are set, click the Save Standings button. This will update the master points for all event players and refresh player stats to include the matches recorded for this event.

That's it! You're finished with the event. If your tournament has more than one event you can add them now.
