Recording Match Results previous - next

Now let's record the match results from your tournament drawsheet. Click the Edit Match Results for this Bracket... link on the Bracket List page. This opens the Match Editor page:

You record matches by rounds starting with Round 1. Make sure the Match Length is set correctly for each round. Select the loser name from the drop-down list next to each winner name. If a player has a "bye" leave the result blank. When all matches are recorded, click the Save Round 1 - Start Round 2 button. Continue for each round:

As you add rounds, the results for previous rounds are clearly shown. If you notice a mistake in an earlier round, click the column header link to change the results for that round. Just be sure to save each round after editing.

Note: The program will prevent you from entering invalid match results (not to be confused with erroneous results). For example, a player cannot play himself, win or lose twice in the same round, etc. If an invalid result is detected, you'll be prompted to fix it before the round can be saved.

If you are recording a swiss bracket, it may be more convenient to sort the bracket list by player name instead of number. To do this click the Player column sort link. To go back to bracket list order click the # column sort link.

What about "byes"?

A "bye" on the drawsheet is just a place marker, there is no opponent, no match played, and no data of any consequence for the database. A player with a bye merely advances to the next round. If a player has a "bye" leave his result blank for that round.

Very Important! Do not arbitrarily create bogus players to use as place markers for byes in the bracket results. This just screws up the ratings calculations, and makes a mess of the database!

Finishing up....

When matches are recorded and you've double checked the bracket results against the drawsheet, click the Finished With Match Results button. This will take you back to the Event Editor:

If there are other brackets (2nd chance, finals, etc.) for this event, add them now. If not, you're ready to update the final standings and master points for this event.
